The advantage of handcoding a website means a website contains only the necessary codes and nothing more. It does not contain junk or unnecessary codes. A handcoded website is lean and loads fast because it contains only what's needed. A handcoded website loads faster compared to websites built using web design software. With a handcoded website, regular updates and website maintenance are also a breeze because the designer does not need to wade through tonnes of unneeded code.

Optimise all graphics

Name web files and web pages according to convention

Because search engine robots index web pages, make their task easy and intuitive. Name your web files and web pages according to convention. Also cheapest broadband provider important keywords which define your business are included when naming these web files and web pages. You can check how many of your web pages are indexed by typing "site:www.yoursite.com" into any search engine (do not include the quote marks).

Write individual page titles and keywords

Once you have your website built, it's time to insert the page title, description and keywords for every page. The page title, description and keywords should be different for each and every web page on your website. This takes work but hey, this is organic search engine optimisation. It doesn't cost money but it costs time.

Give all your photos meaningful ALT tags

Don't forget to write ALT tags or descriptions for your photos or graphics too. The mistake often made is that the ALT tag describes the photo without context and without any meaningful keyword. For instance, which ALT tag offers more information: "my cat" or "Nic's tabby, Kiko, sunbathing on a warm Malaysian day"? Write your ALT tags properly so that in event that the photo's ALT tag is all you see/read, you will know what the photo is about.
